Not our Fault (2011)

Slate and Steel
650 x 550 mm

This wall hanging was inspired by the Christchurch earthquakes. This once complete circle violently altered, represents the circle of life and the earth. This shift in the earth now requires a shift in consciousness to deal with the change.

The grey slate used in this piece came from the roof of the Christchurch Sunnyside Hospital, demolished before the earthquakes; the other colours were saved from old homesteads in the Wakatipu basin.

The recycled slate represents the make-up of the ground, with broken bands of minerals emphasizing the shift in the fault line.
